Blog # 69: No More Tears

Oh…Life is one big rollercoaster ride. Many people come in and out of our lives to teach us things about ourselves. With that said, I leave you with this… No one has the right to hurt that beautiful heart of yours. Stay true to who you are… ALWAYS! With no further ado, here’s the next song of mine from Homegrown Music Cafe. It’s called, “No More Tears”. Leave a comment here: Jennifer Vazquez Fan Page.

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home So, I just did a cover with my duet partner from “Stilettos-n-Steel”. It’s another song by  The Civil Wars that we absolutely love! This is the way to write a song. It’s an example of LESS is most definiteluy MORE! We played this song regularly in our setlists during our first tour as a duet this past summer. I thought I’d share it here on my own site to see what ya think! Let me know… xoxo  Jen Poison & Wine by The Civil Wars… Covered by Stilettos-n-Steel

Blog #28: The Perfect Snowfall

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   I was going through my past photo albums the other day and came across this picture I took up at Mohonk Mountain House back in 1993. The day was as calm and quiet as snow falling. As I walked out of Mohonk Mountain House in the early morning, to see how much snow had fallen the night before, I was blessed with this visual. I hurried to capture this most serene picture of  The Perfect Snowfall. It was not planned, it just happened. I did not question it’s beauty. Instead, I quickly rushed back into my room to grab my camera and quickly returned to the front porch to find nature’s beauty untampered with and snapped the shot!  And this is how I plan on moving forward in 2013. As the journey continues of finding Pinocchio a home, I make a promise to simply live my life, take my chances at doing what I love and not question how or why, but rather just step into abundance naturally, as it comes, taking pictures to capture the tiny little miracles that cross my path as I venture into unknown territory[…]

Blog #22: “Editing Is Everything”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   So, a few months back, I took a songwriting course at Gotham Writer’s Workshop with Jody Gray. What a learning process! In that time, I practiced the “art” of songwriting, using the specific rules and tools given in each class. I was reminded of what humility and willingness truly means. I also found the courage to put aside my already learned techniques and self taught ways so that I could allow other songwriting methods in. I am so grateful I did. It has allowed yet another door to open to get me closer and closer to being a full time singer, songwriter, composer and performer. If I had to summarize the 10 week course into two sentence, here is what I would say. 1. Learn all the rules to the game so well that you never have to think about what to do again to craft a “GREAT” song, one that is universal and authentic! 2. Editing is everything. (Sure, the first draft is a great start, but that’s all it is! Once the first edit is in, that’s when the real fun begins!) What I found great about this class was[…]

Blog #20: I Love Lady Gaga’s “You And I”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home    Ok, sort sweet and to the point… I love this song by Lady Gaga! It’s called “You And I”. As a storyteller, it’s my job to listen to those around me and see what I like, what I don’t like and ask myself what is it that makes me feel alive? And what do you as a listener want to hear? It allows me to create for both you and I a song that is well crafted with universal themes that you just wanna hear over and over again. Well, “You And I” by Lady Gaga is one song I truly feel is a well crafted song in many ways. I liked it so much I covered it at my last show. Enjoy! See Ya Back Here Real Soon… Yup! One step closer to finding him a home! Love, Light & Great Tunes, Jen

Blog #19: It’s Happening! My Music Is Being Placed in “Sleeping With The Fishes”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home    Pinocchio is really excited right now… and so am I! I was working on Blog #19 yesterday while going to and coming from Ron’s studio. Ron is the producer I have used for the past two projects I have done: “A Very Jenny Christmas” and “I Wanna Be Pinocchio”. Anyway, that was the plan, until, I just got some awesome news a few hours ago. So that blog will have to be Blog#20! So, let’s see, what to say first! Well, I love working with Ron because he’s a breeze to work with and he is a kick ass producer, musician and everything in between. So, I went there to record ,”Getting Out Of  My Own Way”, a song I have had in my repertoire for a while yet had not felt the need to record it professionally yet. And, it’s a good thing I didn’t because I actually ended up rewriting the song a few weeks back while I was taking a ten week songwriting class with a great teacher and mentor, Jody Gray. Anyway, I rewrote the song and then literally a week after I did my 6th[…]

Blog #15: “I Am A Human Being… Not A Human Doing”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   I am finding it so essential to put the breaks on and STOP when I get too caught up in the “doing” of life and forget about the”being” in life. After all, what I am? A Human Being, Right? And what I am finding as I stay present to my instincts and as I continue to trust what my spirit is messaging to me, ever so gently throughout each day, is that the best things in my life are starting to come from practicing just “being”, as much as possible, so that the things that really need to be done on my daily, weekly and monthly checklist are presented to me so clearly that I don’t need to waste any time questioning my next moves or stressing out about “The Cursed Hows” as Mike Dooley likes to call it: So, there is no need for me to worry about how I am going to get Pinocchio a good home. My only job is to keep my goal front and center in my mind and to then follow through by taking the next right action. That’s it! And, the[…]

Blog #13: “A Brush With Faith”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   For me, life happens when I follow faith rather than try to chase my dream. Here’s an example. On March 25th I was going about my Sunday as I normally do, gearing up for the week ahead and creating an action list consisting of the actions I plan on taking for the upcoming week to continue the journey of finding a home for Pinocchio! Well, I was meeting up with my Mom for dinner and I told her I would meet her uptown rather than her drive to me. So, I got on the 5 train and headed to 86th and Lexington.  I had to quickly use the restroom and so I went into the Barnes & Noble that was right there and went down the escalator and found my way to the restroom. Well, as I walked towards the restroom, there was a sign for the upcoming event for that next day. I double took the sign, it said Joan Osborne.

Blog #12: “The Storyteller”

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   I am a storyteller. I have been every since I can remember. In each experience I had, a story would somehow arise. It started with poems, then shifted to singing acapello. Then I went on to perform in a few school musicals. Next thing you know, I am in my first cover band, which two years later turns into “Blush”, where we were playing just original songs. Then, finally I taught myself guitar. And that changed everything! It allowed me to create my own songs from years of thoughts written down on paper. I am a storyteller… Here’s a taste of what that looks like…

Blog #10: Saying “Yes” to The Power of Positive Thinking

From The Blog Series… 365 Blogs To Finding Pinocchio A Home   I am sitting on my bed with my wonderful friend, “Mr. MacBook Pro” on my lap doing some music business and I am thinking, “What about if I just write a blog now, right in this space of abundance that I am feeling right now.” Let me explain, you see, I have been spending a great amount of time over the past year praying and staying connected to my higher power asking him for guidance on what action to take next on this journey of life.  And as I have been practicing this concept of living with faith rather than living in doubt and lacking, I am noticing that abundance is coming into my path pretty smoothly without my pushing or pulling or tugging or controlling any part of it. The great news about it is that I am not letting those fears, “False Evidence Appearing Real”, scare me away from this abundance. In the past, I most definitely would have and I have spoken about that need to stay under the radar to keep myself small in past blogs and it is wonderful to share with[…]
