Journal #68: Day Twenty Six… Freedom To Be You

Join the journey with me… Jen’s 2015 Musical Vision Quest RocketHub Campaign!

Just as I began writing my journal entry for Day 26 of my musical vision quest journey, a voice inside my head said, “You realize how lucky you are, right?” I scratched my head and said, “Who’s there? Huh! Oh… ok. Go on…”

And the voice started to chat with me. “Well, you get to be you! You get to do what you want to do, live where and how you’d like to live, put on clothes each day that define you, internally and out. You get to be an artist, follow your dreams, express yourself, use your brain and feed your heart and soul by writing songs. You actually get to create projects that feed your art and fuel your self-expression and then get to share your purpose with all those around you.”

“Uh huh, yes! That so true! Continue….”, I said.

And so the voice went on and said,  “You realize why today is so important, right? Before July 4, 1776, all that you are doing now would not have happened. None of it would have been possible. Sure, you are free now. You can do as you wish. However, before the Declaration of Independence, this wasn’t a free country and colonists felt angry toward Great Britain for always imposing taxes on them and pretty much telling them how they should live. They wanted to break free of British rule and took huge risks, starting to make their own government and rules. It took time, yes, but they did it! The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776 and signed by the President of the Continental Congress, John Hancock.”

And then it all hit me… What do I want to talk about today? This! Of course… this! Why do we celebrate the Declaration of Independence today? Because it’s on this very day that the US was born; the day the US could follow their own rules!

What courage that took for those men to stand up for what they wanted, even though it meant committing an act of treason against the British King. And because of them, we get to live the lives we want to live, we get to wear the clothes that define our inner selves, strive to create brilliance from the creative projects we choose to take on. We get to simply live a life filled with abundance in self expression and inner truth! That’s a reason worth celebrating!

So today, let it be a rebirth of yourself, a reason for you to lift yourself up from under your own internal oppressive rule and tyranny. That sneaky inner critic inside your head will mess with your mind. It will make you think you have to live, act, dress or be a certain way… OR ELSE! Well that just isn’t so. We are free to simply be!

So today, move towards your true purpose in life. Be happy, joyous and free. Why? Because you can…

Happy Forth Of July!
