On Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 I will be celebrating the debut of my music video release for my single “Getting Out Of My Way.” As I think back to August of 2014, a smile erupts from within me. A major vision of mine has come to life. Let me share what I mean.
On October 8th, 2014 something wonderful happened. An idea I’d come up with two month prior came into fruition. The Universe said, “It’s time Jen! Go shoot a music video for “Getting Out Of My Own Way”. This single is one of two of my songs featured in the hit HBO comedy “Sleeping With The Fishes”, starring Golden Globe Nominee Gina Rodriguez (The CW’s “Jane The Virgin”.) The other song of mine that’s featured in the film is “Running Out Of Time” from my studio album “bend.”
When I shared this vision with award winning director, Nicole Gomez Fisher, who wrote and directed “Sleeping With The Fishes,” I expressed how I wanted her to direct the video. Without hesitation, she said yes and introduced me to award winning director “Nimer” Neem Basha. Together, Nicole Gomez Fisher, “Nimer” Neem Basha and I created a solid concept for the video. Neem then created a storyboard from which fed all three of our souls.
The day of the shoot was quite surreal, I couldn’t have asked for a better team of creatives to work with. It’s key to have a team who are like minded with unique skill sets that allow for magic to occur on set. After a 12 hour shoot, Nikki and Neem called “That’s a wrap!” and the editing process began.
Over the past few months Nicole, Neem and I have been working on getting this music video to its purest state. Rob Levy, our cinematographer and editor, has been incedible to work with.
And now, after nine edits down, I am fully content with what we have created. I am so excited to share this accomplishment with my friends, family, fans and the entire “Getting Out Of My Way” crew. I cannot wait. It will be a night I know I will never forget and I hope everyone who joins me that night will feel the same!
