The past few weeks have been a dream come true. Choosing to record a new album with producer Wren Lemieux in The Big Easy has been such a wonderful gift. I am filled with so much gratitude and excitment. The experience itself was insane, amazing, exhausting and absolutely satisfying in every way.
So… what was it like, exactly?
Imagine being placed in your favorite candy store for 16 days. Your job? Share all your ideas and creations that you’d been working long, hard and smart on with this brilliant candymaker. Then the biggest challenge arrives! You both have to agree on all the ingredients, all the flavors and the overall taste and concept of each piece of newly created candy.
While you know your expertise and skillset is in creating fabulous and flavor filled candy, you also know that this candymaker you chose to work with is the best of the best. You know that once you allow yourself to trust him 100%, the whole journey can successfully fall into place. Each and every day, you and the candymaker explore all the possibilites, and as you begin to go with the flow, moment to moment, greatness begins to enter the picture!
Oh, and during your free time, while the candymaker puts together your ideas and platforms them, with his many magical touches, for you to then come back to the shop and create your masterpiece together, your job is to walk around town and get inspired by all the other fabulous candymakers that surround you!
The experience you take away from it? One of humility, growth, excitement and amazement on how many great pieces of candy two creatives stuck in the same place for over two weeks can come up with.
That, in a nut shell, is what my experience has been like as I ventured into the beginning stages of recording this new album filled with lots of new songs in NOLA!
Ahhh… stay tuned!
