For those of you who live in Nashville and is needing assistance, especially those in the service industry, and elders who need food, etc, call 211 or 311 and they can give you information. In addition, a “Covid19 Respond Fund” has now been set up with $1,000,000.00. In addition, if you need information and updates in Nashville around this: https://www.asafenashville.org

We are all dealing with so much, but together we will get through this, as we continue to help get people get back on their feet from tornado relief as well. One day at a time. Be patient, be kind, be generous, not only with finances, but with your heart. It goes a long way. #NashvilleStrong

A Personal Look Around The Tornado In Nashville

Special thanks to Jason Galaz for his continued creative support and talents, and Matthew Charette for this beautiful mural concept and making space for it at Boston Commons in our East Nash hood! We are blessed and lucky to be a part of a supportive, proactive, caring and creative community. So many folks have helped make Nashville strong this past week when we have needed it the most. More needs to be done and together we will get back on our feet.

I Don’t Know Where To Start…

Journal Entry: March 3, 2020” I Don’t Know Where To Start”
I woke up this morning with a knot in my stomach, like I’m sure so many of us have been experiencing since Tuesday’s torando and all the devistation it has left behind for us to deal with.

Anyway, I had the day off and just needed to do something “hands on” in our community. I found out about Hands On Nashville (HON): https://www.hon.org and signed up to volunteer, but found out that so many people had already done so as well and I would have to wait for an opening spot for more relief projects to be set up in the next few days.

Since I’d have to wait to volunteer with them, I’d just go to Walmart and pick up some supplies that HON said they needed for people to donate (either by DROP OFF or BY MAIL to the Community Resource Center at 218 Omohundro Place, Nashville, TN 37210) and go down to the sites myself to find an immediate way to help out.

When I got to Walmart, I filled my cart with bottled water, box cutters, garbage bags and feminine hygiene items and then just spontaneously went back to my neighborhood and directly to where I’d heard the community got hit the worst, Holly and 13th, and found a spot to park, filled my suitcase with water and garbage bags and just started walking through the streets, offering people both, if they needed it.

What was so beautiful was the amount of support that surrounded those blocks I walked up and down.

After walking through that area, I got back in my car and went towards the Five Points area and parked my car and just got out and started walking with my suitcase of supplies to be of assistance to anyone needing it in that area too.

At this point, I felt emotionally drained and positively touched all at once because while everything I was witnessing was so devastating and overwhelming, my heart was filled with all the people in our community being of service to those individuals and families that truly need it right now. I’m grateful I took the step to participate in all of the goodness that was being spread today.

After walking around Five Points, I went to Gallatin / Main Street and walked around there and made my way up to Woodland by Basement East and walked towards where The Soda Parlor (which unfortunately I never got a chance to go to) and where Burger Up was (which Is just been with a friend just a few days prior.)

I was able to empty my suitcase of supplies; giving all the water and garbage bags in it to those who needed it. Everyone was very appreciative and kind and in good spirits despite all of what they are obviously going through internally and externally.

My final stop was to Margaret Maddox Family YMCA, as they are accepting donations as well. So, I dropped off the remaining supplies I didn’t give away today.

I’m grateful for being able to give back in some small way to my community and my hope is that you all will all, in your own way, do the same. We are all in this together…

Another Fulfilling Day Volunteering

Journal Entry: March 15, 2020 ” – “Another Fulfilling Day Volunteering”

The past two weeks have been an opportunity to step up and be a part of something greater than myself. I have been able to volunteer with “Hands on Nashville” a few times and then, just a few days ago, had a chance to volunteer with American Red Cross on one of their Box Trucks. We traveled to Lebanon early Sunday morning, being very cautious with the coronavirus pandemic, providing the community who needed it the most with boxes of food, water, sanitizer, snacks and cleaning agents. The best part of it was to have been able to spend it with these three giving, fun and uplifting volunteers: Gator, Diane and Debra . We got to 100 people today! Thanks Hands On Nashville for this beautiful opportunity.

PS. I must have used 1/2 a bottle of sanitizer myself to stay safe!

Why I Love Living In East Nashville

Journal Entry: March 17, 2020 – “Why I loved Living In East Nashville

There’s something very unique and special about Nashville. There’s this sense of, “We’re in this together”, that I’ve felt since moving here 3 plus years ago but over the past two weeks, it’s risen to a whole new level.

Here’s an example of what I mean…. Dino’s is a dive bar / restaurant around us in East Nash with yummy food and drinks which is a known place. Well since the social distancing rule has now closed all bars and limited many other restaurants, like Dino’s, to only take out, it’s hitting so many owners harder than hard.

Well, yesterday, some anonymous Nashvillian did such a kind act…Here’s what I wrote on my community page for you to get the gist of his kindness!

MY FACEBOOK POST:
“Just picked up my free meal, a Butcher Burger & Basket of Animal Style Fries, from Dino’s in East Nash! Thank you Anonymous East Nashville Neighbor for your generosity, donating $1000 tab to all us service industry folks.” Yes… very proud to be a part of a community of people who truly know what it means to be of service and practice kindness, love and generosity. #NashvilleStrong

Until Next Month…

Love + Light + Healing

Yes, life is a huge challenge for all of us… But together we will make it through. Until next month… I wanted to end by sharing one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever experienced and captured, on a lake in a canoe in PA last summer. Love, light and continued healing… xx
