Journal #31: Cancer Free… Mom & Me!

I never talked about it socially but those of you who needed to know were contacted about my Mom being diagnosed with lung cancer ten months back. She went through surgery on May 7th 2014 and I stood by her side every step of the way through her recovery. I learned a lot about myself and my strengths, fears and exactly what I am capable of when I put my faith in a higher power greater than myself. I found a new found bond with my sister and brother. Together we worked together to be the rock my mom needed, as she has always been ours. Family is everything! Anyway, today I am happy to report that after going with mom to her forth CAT scan over these past 10 months, the cancer is still nowhere to be found… Today is a very beautiful day! Appreciate every single day you have been given. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Be of service to others every chance you get.

Journal #30: My Two Cents

Ok, so after watching the 2015 Grammys I had a bunch of thoughts going on inside my brain. I wanted to kinda write it outta me so I could move forward abundantly rather than feed off the negative energies sometimes brought forth by other individuals on social media and actually at The Grammys themselves. Here’s what thoughts formulated… Yes, I’m 1/2 joking & 1/2 serious. 😉 The Music Industry would do us all justice by creating clear and defined categories, maybe something like this…. 1. The Real Deal (Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Producer, Business Person that also perform their songs) 2. The Songwriter (The genius behind all the Performers / Entertainers / Singers you see out there shaking their bling, bling and boobies all around. Yes, I just said bling, bling & boobies. ) 3. The Entertainer (Singer / Dancer / Artist that brings a new take / creative spin to the original work created for them.) 4. Producers (Those who add their skill sets to the artist’s / writer’s /musician’s truest vision.) 5. The Egomaniac (The producers and entertainers that take credit from everyone around them when it’s everyone around them that allow them to be the success[…]

Journal #29: My First Painting!

I have always wanted to take a painting class and I finally got the chance a few days ago while I was away visiting my Dad for a quick getaway! Oh boy, I so needed the downtime after spending the past 6 months on renovating my website and getting the new music video for “Getting Out Of My Own Way” ready for it’s official release! I had such a great painting this picture. I gotta be honest, though, there were a mix of emotions going on inside of me as I painted each stroke, like I was on top of the world yet afraid to take the next step. I remember at the very beginning of the lessson I was worried that I would mess something up. But then, as I kept painting, I realized it’s just like writing a song! Why? Because when I write, usually the best songs that are birthed come from a mix of instinct and error. So I just allowed myself to follow that recipe and what do ya know, my first painting was done!

Journal #27: Now That’s Hot!

So I had to share this with you. About a week ago I’m making my regular gourmet oatmeal that I love so much. Ok, a 1/2 cup of skim milk. A 1/2 cup of water. Dice me some apples, slice me some bananas, throw in a bit of blueberries, ok… now some….vanilla… some cinnamon… hmmm… this is usually so easy to shake out… let me try some more… Hmmmm…. weird…. one more… oops! That’s not cinnamon… it’s cayenne pepper Jen! Remember you moved the cabinets around? Ok… I can fix this… Ok… add the real cinnamon into the pot… taste it… Holly Molly Miss Golly… HOT! Ok, keep on thinking… hmmm… syrup to cut the burn… Ok… add some syrup… Done! What did I do…? I ate it…Whew… that’s the hottest experience I ever had!
