When I wake up in the morning, there are two thought patterns that occur, in no particular order. One voice will say, “Good morning world! I am so ready to get this day started!” And the other voice, well, it’s not so kind. That voice will say, “Why even bother. You’ve worked so hard and you still haven’t gotten where you wanna go. Just go back to sleep and do us both a favor.”
Now, at this point I have a choice. What voice will I listen to? Obviously, we would all say, listen to the empowering voice, right? That voice will definitely bring forth a day of abundance, peace, serenity and happiness. But… it’s not that easy. I used to think I could just WILL the thoughts out of me, all by myself. Ha…That’s such a joke. I used to think I could do it all on my own with not an ounce of help. Heck, I thought doing it all on my own would make me stronger. False! Oh, the mind is a tricky place and that little snake, it will get you. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but when you’re not paying attention… Whammmm, it sucks you right on into it’s negativity and self-sabotaging ways. This is why it’s your job, our job, heck, my job, to make sure that when it does sneak in the back door, that I have all my tools in place to silence that sucker down, at least for 24 hours. And those tools take time to accumulate. It’s a process… But once they are in place, that voice cannot take us “there” anymore. Sure, it’ll always be there… but we will have what we need to fight it off time and time again.
Anyway, why was I propelled to write about this today? Well, for one thing, last night I went to a workshop hosted by a lawyer named Jo-Ná Williams who heads The Artist Empowerment Firm. Ariel Hyatt was the guest speaker and I was excited to hear what she had to say. I’ve followed her for a few years now and I’ve never had an opportunity to meet her in person. If you are unfamiliar with Ariel, check her out. She’s solid, through and through. I respect her greatly. Anyway, the event was awesome and I got a lot out of it. But what hit me the most was seeing Ariel’s human side.
She has accomplished quite a bit, to say the least, and as she started talking about crowdfunding, which was her focus for the night, she spoke of how FEAR was by her side daily whe she chose to do her crowdfunding campaign, with her goal being $50,000. Long story short, she beat the dragon, FEAR, and she got the funding. All of it! I loved how she spoke so humbly and honestly ’cause it helps me to reach further, day by day, when I continue to surround myself with other successful people and hear their journeys, about all the obstacles they overcame. It all comes down to their choosing to let go of all the FEAR inside them and just trust in the unknown and believe. To believe in ourselves, we must first love ourselves! Yes… Love! That is the answer. Love for yourself, love for the project, love for others. Anyway, it was a great night, one that I won’t forget.
So, today I am sharing my song. “Getting Out Of My Own Way” . It is a reminder that we just need to get out of our own ways to be exactly who we already are and have always been, beautiful rays of light, just waiting to shine on others so they too can do the same.
Before I go, I wanted to share some very exciting news:
My dear friend, Nicole Gomez Fisher was recently named Best New Director for her debut film, Sleeping With The Fishes by The Brooklyn Film Festival. The movie has also been nominated for five Imagen Awards.
This is the movie that my songs: “Running Out Of Time” and “Getting Out Of My Own Way” are in! Check out Latin Heat Entertainment’s mention of all the nominations!
