Hmmm… Stories behind songs? Let me take you back to musical moment in time and go a little deeper. It was the first time I had a full crew of people make a past vision turn into a reality; producing a music video for my song “Nothing Without You.” That song’s off my first full length studio album, “bend”, as many of you may remember. What a great adventure that was! We shot in both LA and Florida. Fun times, great people, unforgettable moments!

Hope you enjoyed watching the video and the download of it. So here’s an example of how songs change in meaning as a songwriter’s journey progresses over the years. When I wrote this song, it was geared towards a man in my life who I fell in love with and who I highly respected as a filmaker and writer. At the time, I was going through a major turning point in my life, where it seemed liked all four walls were caving in on me. I wrote “Nothing Without You” to express how there are certain people who come into your life that just become your rock. They are there to grab hold of you when you’re falling into that dark pit of self-loathing and self-hatred. Hey, we’ve all been there and reality is we’ll all go in and out of those moments forever. We’re only human! Well, you know that feeling when all your visions seem to go blind? That point of hopelesness? Well, this man would hold up the mirror in front of me, so to speak, to remind me of what he saw in me, my true essence, beauty, calm, my grounded ways, my authentic abundant self. The real me! And that experience was key for me to return to my purpose. His love for me was my sanity.

And a bunch of years later? What’s the meaning now? Well as I listened to the song again, I’ve now shifted in a major way. The person who this was about has now morphed into something bigger than a human being. It’s become a higher source, a power greater than myself. And now, “Nothing Without You” is about knowing that as long as I’m aware of  my own highest source of power and truth, which involves me practicing love and tolerance daily, then when I lose myself to the dark side, I can turn to this Higher Power to return me to sanity, to restore my view of my true essence, that beautiful, abundant and empowering woman that I stepped into the shoes of a few year back. And now, to return home, each time I slip or fall, I simply reach out to that source to regain all my happiness, serenity, joy, peace and excitement about life! I call it, my Higher Power or The Universe! And there ya have it! How do ya like those bananas? What? I already used apples in one of the other journal entries. Trying to change up the fruit a bit!
